Washoe Smelter. Montana Memorabilia. Notice the tip is broken off of this one! This item is part of a lot/ collection, picked from a private residence in Western Montana, containing lots of metalware, including copper items collected from the surrounding areas of Butte, Anaconda and Deer Lodge, MT. All with a rich old history of mining, smelting and producing many products in what was a bustling area at the time when mining operations were in full swing! This older person had worked for the Anaconda mining company before it was closed. The Anaconda copper mine in Butte, MT was a large mine that closed operations in 1947. The Anaconda smelter shut down in 1980 as was soon dismantled. Though these items are not certified,… check out the other related items from this collection for more content and verification of story, the collection was purchased from the original collectors grandchildren who told us the story that the Grandfather had worked for the Anaconda mining co… which continued operations and produced many products during and after WWII, many items were for the government and some for war time campaigns. When the smelter was shut down, many items trickled out into the surrounding area, many items went home with employees like this one, who helped to disassemble the smelter, and kept some awesome, collectible, souvenirs!
